PG Wing inaugurated
College of Nursing, Armed Forces Medical College, Pune commenced training for MSc (Nursing) in the current academic year. Lt Gen S K Kaul VSM, director and commandant, AFMC formally inaugurated the post graduate wing at CON, during the Lamp lighting ceremony for the 43rd batch of nursing cadets on November 22. He expressed the hope that with the commencement of post graduation, the College of Nursing, will continue to fulfill with distinction, its aim of producing technically qualified and competent nurse practitioners for all three defence services. According to Col J A Fernandez, principal, CON, AFMC, in the lamp lighting ceremony, 39 students, who were enrolled for the BSc (Nursing) degree course in Aug 2008 took the pledge of Florence Nightingale and receive the significant light from their teachers, to mark their initiation into the nursing profession. They then became new torchbearers of the nursing tradition of selfless devotion that flows from the legacy of Florence Nightingale. This ceremony was conducted by Maj Gen T Padmini, additional director General, Military Nursing Service.

Course for hearing impaired
Cochlea Pune for Hearing and Speech- is starting a new course – diploma in teaching for young hearing impaired- from December 1. The course is designed by the Rehabilitation Council of India to create a pool of manpower, who are trained in teaching congenital deaf children. The course will be conducted for the first time in the state and candidates should have completed Standard XII from any branch. Further details may be had by contacting 25510099 for further details.
