The Punjab and Haryana High Court today granted bail on medical grounds to Gurnihal Singh Pirzada, a 1982-batch Tamil Nadu-cadre IAS officer, who was arrested by the Vigilance Bureau under Prevention of Corruption Act on January 22.
The counsel for Pirzada, Denesh Goyal, said he had been falsely implicated in the case. Granting bail, Justice M S Gill said in his order that the counsel has stated that the FIR registered against Pirzada does not make out any offence against him.
Justice Gill stated that Pirzada’s counsel placed on record certain documents pertaining to the condition of the petitioner’s health. This included a copy of the order of the Special Judge Ropar, dated February 9, 2004, which refers to a report of the Senior Medical Officer (SMO), Central Jail, Patiala.
