NEW DELHI, August 19: The Delhi Police are still clueless about the mysterious death of a head constable whose body was found near a police chowki in Hauz Khas on Monday evening.Senior officers have, however, ruled out the possibility that the death of head constable Banshi Dhar, 54, was a hit and run case, because the only portion of his body where injuries were noticed were his head. His service revolver was also missing when his body was found around 8 pm.The body has been sent for a post-mortem. Though the report is awaited, a south district officer suspects that Dhar could have suffered a heart attack and as he fell, injured his head. The presence of vomit near his body seems to suggests this angle.The disappearance of his service revolver, however, has raised suspicions that he could have been mugged. The injuries on his head were possibly inflicted with a blunt object.The investigating team is also probing the possibility that Dhar could have been a victim of old enmity. Some person(s) probably followed him from Hauz Khas police station when he was on his way to the police picket and attacked him just before he reached there. So far no eyewitnesses have come forward to suggest either angle.Another possibility that the investigators are considering is that Dhar was in an inebriated condition. He could have lost his balance and fell in an awkward manner which led to the fatal injuries. This possibility could also explain the vomit near his body.Says a senior south district officer: ``The cause of Banshi Dhar's death will be confirmed after we receive the post mortem-report. He could have suffered a heart attack. And when someone noticed his found removed the revolver discreetly.''
