CHENNAI, DECEMBER 15: The Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu police to execute the non-bailable warrants (NBWs) against 33 directors of Anubhav group of companies, who have been charged with violating the protection of interests of depositors act, within three days.Observing that even after about 11 months since the issue of the NBWs on January 21 last they were yet to be executed, Justice P D Dinakaran said that if the warrants were not executed by the stipulated time he would be constrained to pass observations about the functioning of the police department. He said it was surprising that in such a grave crime, the authorities concerned had arrested only two persons - the chairman and managing director of the group, C Natesan and one Giri Rao, released on bail as early as December 16, 1998. Three others had also secured anticipatory bail.Rejecting the report filed by the director general of police on the progress of the investigation so far as `unconvincing', the judge pointed out that it did not contain even relevant dates.Directing the police to submit a more comprehensive report, the judge posted the case for hearing on dec. 20.The group has been charged with cheating hundreds of depositors to the tune of nearly rs 270 crore by collecting deposits under various agro-schemes.
