CHANDIGARH, Nov 27: The principal of Kendriya Vidalaya No.2 in Jalandhar Cantonment has been directed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court to appear in person in connection with a contempt suit filed against him.

In a writ filed earlier, a teacher of the same school, Rakesh Kumar, had alleged that he was being transferred to Kapurthala as the principal, K L Anand wanted to adjust one of his close associates in the school.

A directive passed by a division bench on November 20 had stayed the operation of the transfer order and the petitioner then approached the school chairman with the HC directive. The school principal was instructed to allow the petitioner to join his duties.

In a separate letter, the principal wrote to the petitioner that he could not be allowed to join as his post is no longer vacant.

Counsel for the petitioner contended that the action of the principal was a deliberate attempt to disobey the court order, for which apart from compliance, the petitioner also deserved to be convicted. Hearing the arguments, Justice N K Sodhi directed the school principal to appear personally in court.
