The Madras High Court today stayed a city police order suspending the licence for running a luxury hotel, including a bar, in the city, only in respect of the guests staying at the hotel, after some Tamil eveningers published ‘obscene’ photographs of dance programmes allegedly conducted in the hotel.
Granting the order on a petition filed by M/S Apeejay Surendra Park Hotels, management of The Park Hotel, Justice D Murugesan said the interim stay, valid till October 1, was only in respect of the 210 guests, who should not be forced to vacate the hotel.
Noting that the allegations were very serious in nature, the judge restrained the hotel from taking in new guests and carrying on any activities on the strength of the bar licence issued to the hotel. —PTI
