Pulling up the Education Department for favouring the daughter of an MP in her recruitment as a teacher, the Jammu and Kashmir High Court has quashed the appointment.

After perusing the application form and also the location-wise merit list, Justice Nirmal Singh observed that Madan Lal Sharma’s daughter Susheela “does not have claim on the post”.

The court also directed the Education Department to appoint private respondent Kuldeep Raj in Susheela’s place. She was appointed as a teaching guide under the Rehbar-e-Taleem scheme in the Karkala primary school in Akhnoor tehsil. Raj had filed the petition in 2001 challenging Susheela’s appointment and seeking its quashing.
