HC permits Pappu Kalani’s transfer to Yeravada jail

February 12: The Bombay High Court has granted permission for the transfer of TADA detenu Pappu alias Suresh Budharmal Kalani from Thane Central prison to the Yeravada jail in Pune.

Kalani had filed a criminal application before Justice T K Chandrashekhara Das, urging to be relodged in the Yeravada jail. He was brought to Thane prison three months ago for court hearings in the J J shootout case.

Kalani’s cell in Thane prison is near that of another accused belonging to the Arun Gawli gang, Since one of Gawli’s men had been his victim in the case, Kalani had said he feared a danger to his life.
