NAGPUR, OCT 4: The Nagpur Bench of Mumbai High Court has issued notices to Maharashtra Energy Minister Padamsinh Patil and State Energy Secretary over a public interest litigation regarding heavy load-shedding in the State.

The court on Tuesday directed the duo to file their written submissions over the issue before October 18.

A Division Bench comprising Justice J N Patel and Justice S D Gundewar further directed Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) to ensure that the load-shedding was resorted to, till the state agency submitted relevant information in writing to the court.

The writ has been filed by former Nagpur Deputy Mayor Ramkrishna Angalwar, city lawyers, members of Maharashtra Bar Council Aniruddha Choube and Vivek Gaoli, Indian Medical Association (IMA) and Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat.

They have urged the court to intervene into the matter, as load-shedding was causing a hardship to the consumers. The petitioners further alleged that load-shedding was at the instance of US power giant Enron, which sells power to MSEB at a higher rate.

About 40 per cent of power generated in the State is from Vidarbha region and hence there should not be any cut in power supply, the PIL demanded.
