NEW DELHI, OCT 12: The Delhi High Court on Thursday issued notice to Apollo Hospital here on a petition alleging that patients are being treated with gross negligence in the super speciality hospital.

A bench comprising Chief Justice Arijit Passayat and Justice D K Jain also issued notices to the Union Health Ministry and Medical Council of India (MCI) on a petition by retired IAS officer Uma Kumar, who alleged that her mother had fallen a "victim of Septicaemai" due to "medical malpractices, gross negligence and mishandling" in her treatment.

The court directed all the three respodents to file their replies by November 21, the next date of hearing. Seeking direction to the Centre to investigate all cases of alleged negligence and mishandling by the hospital and initiation of appropriate action against persons responsible, Kumar in her Public Interest Litigation (PIL) claimed that "there is an extremely high incidence of Septicaemia at Apollo, leading to a number of deaths."

"There is no effective supervision over the procedure adopted for catheterisation, nosal feeding, CVP lines and IV drip to ensure that no contamination takes place during the insertion, in dwelling and removal of the same," the PIL filed by Kumar’s counsel Rekha Palli alleged.
