The Punjab and Haryana High Court on Friday quashed an FIR registered by the Punjab Police against Sukhpal Singh Khaira, an MLA and resident of Kapurthala. An FIR was registered against Khaira on charges of wrongful confinement, causing damage to public property under Sections 341,294,427,382, 147 and 149 of the IPC. A truck driver, Pal Singh, had alleged that Khaira and his supporters had surrounded and damaged his truck, besides abusing him. Khaira had alleged that the FIR was a part of a political vendetta. An inquiry was marked in the episode which had found Khaira innocent.
