Expressing concern over large scale wastage of diesel and petrol during transportation, the Bombay high court has ordered the petroleum companies to install inside big tankers small prototype portable containers for carrying petroleum products and use the bottom space in big tankers for carrying other commodities on their return journey.
Hearing a public interest litigation (PIL), Justice Radhakrishnan and Justice V M Kanade ordered IOC, BPCL and HPCL to fabricate a few prototype portable tanks, fully taking into account safety measures, so as to utilise such trucks on the return journey to carry other goods in addition to empty portable tanks. —(PTI)
