AHMEDABAD, APRIL 17: The Gujarat High Court has directed Anand District Superintendent of Police (DSP) to make special efforts to arrest Mohammem Ali alias Salman Khan who is accused of throwing sulphuric acid on the face of 20-year-old Sylvia Manubhai Dabhi, a resident of Anand, on October 26 last year.

A Division Bench of Chief Justice D M Dharmadhikari and Justice B C Patel also directed the Anand District Collector to extend help through local health authorities for medical treatment of the victim.

Also, the court directed the Collector to help the victim get necessary medical help through the State Reserve Relief Fund or social organisations. The counsel for the state government was given two weeks to file a detailed reply and a report on the various steps taken. The next date of hearing is April 25.

The directions were issued on the petition by United Christian Association.

The incident happened while Silvia, a student of TYBA, was going to college on October 26 last year. The assault is said to have taken place after Sylvia reportedly turned down Ali’s overtures. Ali has since been absconding, though police claim to have nabbed two of his associates.

Sylvia, whose face was badly disfigured in the attack, is at home as her family does not have money for her medical treatment.
