NAGPUR, June 29: Veteran social worker Anna Hazare has said that he will soon nail two Congress(I) sugar barons for corruption running into crores.Stressing that he will continue his crusade against corruption, unmindful of threats to entangle him in litigation, Hazare said the two Congress (I) members were from Sangli and Nashik districts. The charges against them would be sent with proof to Chief Minister Manohar Joshi shortly, he added.
Another case of a high-profile corrupt politician was under study, he said, while talking to mediapersons from Nagpur at his native Ralegan Siddhi in Ahmadnagar district early this week. Hazare took a dim view of the recent reshuffles in the state cabinet, saying that mere shifting of ministers from one department to another would not root out corruption. Among the government departments, the irrigation and soil conservation were the most corrupt, he remarked.
Saying that widespread corruption in administration had become a curse for development, he said he would shortly undertake a tour of the state to set up district and taluka-level committees to expose corrupt bureaucrats and politicians. He would set up 300 such committees within an year, he said.
The district committees set up by the government with a collector as its chief and other top officers as members were of no use, as the officers themselves judged their own actions, he remarked. About his corruption charges against Social Welfare Minister Babanrao Gholap, who has threatened to file a defamation case against him, Hazare said the Chief Minister was looking into the matter. Joshi would take a decision after discussing the matter with Sena Chief Bal Thackeray, he added. He dismissed the suggestion that he was trying to expose corruption only in the Sena-Bharatiya Janata Party government, turning a nelson’s eye towards the irregularities in Congress(I) regimes. He said he had agitated against malpractices during the tenure of Sharad Pawar too.
