A busy interior designer, Vibha Bokey’s wardrobe reflects her distinctive creative touch. Her eye for designs in traditional motifs and unusual colour combinations was evident at a recent exhibition of Garhwal saris that she had designed. Her philosophy – “I like to collect the best things possible, always” – explains her careful selections of fabric designs and her clothes. Not one to follow fashion trends blindly, Vibha firmly believes in wearing only that which she is comfortable in.

“Ethnic ensembles suit me best. I prefer to wear salwar kameezes or saris most of the time.”

Vibha has always preferred silks, Tussars and cotton to synthetics. An impulsive buyer, she likes to pick up clothes or fabrics wherever she may be. Among Pune designers, it is Indira Broker’s saris and fabrics that ensure exclusivity, she feels. “At times, I select her fabrics and design my own salwar kameezes. I like her unusual designs. Naturally, I insist on having anything that is one-of-a-kind,” she laughs but says, “I am not very particular about whether the salwar kameezes I wear are exclusive or not.”

During the hot summer months, Vibha likes to wear cool lightly-embroidered cotton salwar kameezes. In winter, it is silks and Tussars with slightly heavier embroidery. When dressing for work, she keeps her jewellery – either diamonds or silver and usually comprising rings, bangles and earrings – to the minimum.

For more formal occasions, like weddings and social gatherings, which as wife of Superintendent of Police Vikram Bokey, Vibha has to attend, she prefers Garhwals and Kanjeevarams or woven silks. Jewellery in gold or diamonds are reserved for such occasions. Her favourite colours? “Cream and white. I also like black but do not have many dark shades in my wardrobe. I also love to mix and match colours,” she says. For accessories like leather bags and purses for those special occasions, Vibha relies mainly on Christina’s or Hidesign, “I have also bought some exquisite `batwas’ from a Parsi gentleman in Mumbai,” she says. Vibha believes in keeping her make-up simple, whatever the occasion. A trace of lipstick with a hint of kajal in her eyes and Vibha is ready to face any social gathering.

Understated elegance and comfort seems to be the key behind Vibha’s personality and her wardrobe.
