CHANDIGARH, Dec 4: Eating an egg a day makes you strong. Eat more and you need to worry about increasing blood cholesterol levels. But if you eat five eggs in two minutes — you get a prize. At least at the on-going Poultry Expo, you do.
Every evening at 5 pm, visitors and even exhibitors, throng the Sagari Hatcheries stall at the on-going Poultry Expo being held at the Parade Ground in Sector 17. Ten competitors, the early birds, put their egg-eating-skills to test. The rules are simple: eat as many eggs as you can in two minutes. No entry fee charged. What’s more, there are prizes for the ones who finish first and second.
"There was nothing to lose,", beamed a 46-year-old local shopkeeper Jagmohan Singh, who gulped down five eggs and pocketed a trophy. The list of participants include people from as far as Hyderabad and Ladhakh. In fact, Bandiali from Andhra Pradesh set the record of consuming seven eggs in two minutes on Wednesday. The record has remained unparalleled so far.
"It doesn’t cost much. About 75 eggs and two trophies. But it certainly is a great crowd-puller," confessed Surjit Singh, Managing Director, Sagari Hatcheries.
