India’s best jumper, Anju B George, brought cheers to Tamil Nadu winning the long jump title for the third consecutive time in the national domestic athletic meet here tonight.

Bahadur Singh of Police also won his third shot put title here. Both Anju and Bahadur had won their events in the previous meets at Delhi and Bangalore.

In the third and final meet held under floodlights, Anju leapt to a distance of 6.45 metres (fifth attempt) to claim the gold and become richer by Rs.30,000 for her triple gold effort. Andhra’s Shoba (6.24m) and Karnataka’s Pramila Aiyappa (6.17m) took the second and third positions.

Bahadur Singh recored his best mark this season in the three domestic meets when he heaved the iron to a distance of 19.61 metres as compared to 19.13m and 19.48m registered in Delhi and Bangalore meets respectively.

The hot and humid conditions apparently did not help the athletes as most of the winners returned lower marks than what they did in the earlier two meets.

In the women 100m event that followed men’s, Saraswati Saha of Bengal ran a calculated race. The event was delayed due to three foul starts.
