NEW DELHI, October 3: With brilliant footwork and swift serves top-seeded Harsh Mankad (Maharashtra) pulled off an emphatic 6-7 (8-10), 6-1, 6-2 over third-seeded Rishi Sridhar (Tamil Nadu) in the under-18 singles final to bag the top prize of Rs 8,000 along with the title in the Shriram Open Tennis Championship at the DLTA complex, here, today.Punwire trainee Sunil Kumar had to sweat it out against Pratim Parikh (DHAITA) to clinch the under-14 title. In the 90-minute duel, the No 3 seed Sunil beat Pratim 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.Uzma Khan (Andhra Pradesh) and Lisa Periera (Maharashtra) prevailed over their opponents to become champions in the girls' under-18 and under-14 categories, respectively.In one-sided encounters, top-seeded Uzma defeated sixth-seeded Aparna Srinivasan (Maharashtra) 6-2, 6-4. Aparna did not play to her potential in the 65 minutes that the match lasted.In the all-Maharashtra final, Lisa, with her powerful forehand shots, convincingly routed Jitisha 6-2, 6-2.Harsh Mankad, one of the most aspiring players in the Indian circuit, after losing the first set in tie-breaker (8-10) managed to get his rhythm back. With his crisp back-hand returns and powerful serves he not only outclassed Rishi but also showed tremendous stamina in the more than two-hour long encounter.Rishi, impressed with his strong and speedy first-serves but totally failed in handling cross-court returns of Harsh on second-serves.
