MUMBAI, December 4: Harinder Singh Aujla (18) was the only one to hit the green in the final round of the Lal Chand Dhalamamm Sons one-hole golf competition under floodlights, picking up in the process the first prize of Rs 5,000 in jewellery at the Bombay Presidency Golf Club on Wednesday.

Ajit Parmar (14) was the runner-up who received Rs 3,000 in jewellery along with Asgar Patel (22) and Ricky Kapoor (16) — the others who made it to the final.

The losing quarter-finalists, Chetan Thakker, Kishore Thakker, Rishi Khera and SP Bahl with closet to pin winners, Agenello Castellino (0-16) and Pratap Kamat (17 and above) all being awarded a gold coin each. The event drew a total of 110 participants.

Travasso nets hat-trickClinton Travasso scored a hat-trick to take Rogets Sports Club to a fine victory over Marol Village Boys in a Division III league match of the MDFA at the St Xavier’s Ground, Parel, today. Rogets won 3-1.

It was Marol which went into the lead early in the first-half through Tony Fernandes. But they could not hang-on to their lead for long with Travasso netting the equaliser before the breather. Travasso struck twice in the second-half to complete the tally.

Omkar impresses

Former Maharashtra (u-10) champion, Omkar Kulkarni continued to charm at the Thane District selection tournament being held at the United Sports Club, today. The ten-year-old Omkar, winner at the Lloyd’s Bank tournament in London recently, vanquished Santosh Raut in a long drawn battle. Fide rated Jyoti Lal also breezed through the third round. A keen battle between women players saw Anagha Damle taste defeat, losing to Priyanka Desai in a struggle that went to 38 moves.

The top eight players here will qualify for the Bombay Chess Association selection tournament next month. The leaders after the third round are: Jyoti Lal, Vijay Thik, Sagar Masurekar, Dinesh Barodia, Sagar Sadavarte, Omkar Kulkarni, Priyanka Desai, Parag Terwadkar and Atal Ahirwar.

Alwa excels

Manoj S Alwa of KMC Khopoli was adjudged the "Best Boxer" of the Inter-collegiate Boxing competition held at the University Sports Pavilion, today. Maharashtra College lifted the Sir Leslee Wilson Cup for best team.
