NEW DELHI, February 24: The junior section of Hansraj Model School (Punjabi Bagh) celebrated its annual sports day with a colourful sports and cultural programme at the school premises. Chief guest of the day, Mangla Moonesinghe, the High Commissioner of Sri Lanka, evinced keen interest in the activities of the school children and expressed his high appreciation for the innovative items presented by the tiny-tots.Among the items presented included Vande Mataram in praise of the Motherland by 150 students, India-Sri Lanka Friendship song, Suryadev namaskar by class 2 boys and girls, yoga exercises by class 3 students and martial art demonstraiton. ``I love my India'' song on skates by children in the below five-year age group was among the piece de resistance of the day's colourful programmes. The Sr Lankan High Commissioner praised the school principal Kusum Ahluwalia and manager P N Kaul for inculcating a sense of discipline and Indian culture among the students of the school.Mangla Moonesinghe presented special prizes to outstanding sportspersons of the school who had done themselves and the school proud by winning awards in inter-school and national tournaments n the last year. Among the prize winners were Pratima Sayal, Delhi No. 1 in table tennis and Abhishek Sharma, who led the Delhi-16 team in Merchant Trophy this season.
