King Gyanendra's participation in the UN General Assembly in New York was called off at the last moment to express Nepal's resentment against the U S decision to not include him in President George Bush's reception for heads of state. The revelation, by royal deputy Tulsi Giri to Samay magazine, contradicts Foreign Minister Ramesh Nath Pandey’s statement at the time that the King wanted to give more attention to peace at home. The interview quotes Giri as saying “The decision not to invite his Majesty was a blatant display of the arrogance of power.. We decided to express our resentment by cancelling the king's trip.”
