Urging political parties to participate in the upcoming municipality polls, Nepal’s King Gyanendra on Friday pledged to activate all elected bodies within a three-year time frame by initiating the poll process. Claiming that he was compelled to seize power in February by dismissing the Sher Bahadur Deuba government, he said a favourable atmosphere had been created in the country to hold municipality elections.

Gyanendra asked political parties to take part in the local level election and utilise the opportunity to popularise them. He urged political parties to work for permanence in the gradually improving peace and security situation. The King also hinted that he was ready for dialogue with political parties. ‘‘We have constantly held discussions with everyone and in the interest of the nation, people and democracy, and we will continue to do so in the future also,’’ he said. —PTI
