NEW DELHI, January 14: Bangkok Asian Games bronze medallist Gurmeet Kaur will be the star attraction in the 32nd Life Insurance Corporation of India athletic meet to be held at the Nehru Stadium here on Friday and Saturday.

Gurmeet Kaur, the Bangkok Asian Games bronze medal winner in javelin, will be seen in action along with her Indian Asiad squad colleague Lekha Thomas (current National champion in triple jump) and over 180 other athletes in the two-day meet. Other international athelets, including H Jayachandran, R K Kishan, Harish Tiwari and G Vasanthi will be vying for top honours.

Jayachandran represented the country in the 1993 SAF Games; R K Kishan is a silver medallist in 4x400m event in the second SAF track and field championships in Dhaka; Harish Tiwari participated in 5,000m in the Asian Athletic Championships; Vasanthi participated in 100m race in the Raja Bhalendra Singh meet.

The LIC will also honour Gurmeet Kaur on the occasion by presenting her with a cash award of Rs 25,000 for her achievements in Bangkok. It will be presented to the star athlete during the opening ceremony of of the meet to be held tomorrow at 10 am, by G Krishnamurti, chairman, LIC. The Indian athlete is also likely to be given an out-of-turn promotion.
