GANDHINAGAR, DEC 6: Taking serious note of the incident of `drunken misconduct’ at Patna involving a senior IPS officer Pramod Kumar Jha, the Gujarat Government has sought a detailed report from the Bihar DGP.

Minister of State for Home Haren Pandya announced on Tuesday that the report is expected in a couple of days, following which the Home Department will initiate action against Jha who is currently posted as SP (Railways) in Vadodara. “The Patna incident involving an IPS officer is very disturbing and has tarnished the image of the department,” he said. When asked about the “mystery woman” accompanying Jha, Pandya said her identity was yet to be established.

According to reports, an inebriated Jha, who was in Patna to investigate a lead in a Rajkot kidnapping case, was seen with a woman — reportedly his wife — at a posh hotel. Some youths made a pass at the woman, following which the drunk policeman used his service revolver to threaten them. The young men fled and Jha was led to the police station where he created a scene.

Additional Chief Secretary (Home) V V R Subbarao described the Patna episode as “disturbing” and said it reflected badly on police officers in Gujarat. He said the nature of action being contemplated against Jha would be decided only after the Home Department received a detailed report from the Bihar DGP.
