Ahmedabad, Oct 10: Gujarat BJP unit president Rajendrasinh Rana today said he had `owned responsibility for the party’s debacle in the recently concluded Municipal and Panchayat elections in the state’ but refused to tender resignation from the post as demanded by some party workers.

Addressing a press conference here, Rana said as a state party president he was taking full responsibiliy for the party’s poor performance in the elections.

He said a meeting of senior party leaders and state party office-bearers was held in Gandhinagar last night, that reviewed the poll performance and constituted a fact-finding committee headed by Minister Bharat Barot to ascertain the causes of the debacle. The committee would submit its report to the party president within a month, he added.

The committee would meet party leaders and people to find out the reason for the poor performance. If any leader or worker wanted to express their views he could do so before the fact-finding committee and not the media, he said.

The party executive would meet for a day on October 15 to discuss the issue. Rana said the party would try to correct lapses that led to the debacle.
