PUNE, MAY 18: The probe into the sensational Deccan police station jail break case has found that the four policemen on duty had not done the mandatory check of the undertrials before they were locked back into the cell. The probe report - submitted to the DCP (Zone I) Ajit Patil - indicted the four policemen for ``negligence of duty.'' It states that the ``dereliction of duty'' by the four policemen gave an opportunity to the undertrials to smuggle in the hacksaw which was used in their escape bid.The inquiry was conducted by ACP (Deccan) Dnyaneshwar Chavan. Additional Commissioner of Police M S Maheshgauri said that the erring policemen would be punished sternly ``for gross negligence of duty.'' He added that he was yet to go through the report. On April 26 seven undertrials tried to escape by cutting the window grills of the Deccan police station lock-up. But their bid was foiled when one of them confessed after he was re-arrested. Rattled by the incident, Police Commissioner K K Kashyap had ordered a thorough probe into the affair.Investigations revealed that the plot had been master-minded by history-sheeter Rajesh Chorge.. He claimed that he chanced upon a hacksaw blade when he was taken for interrogation. Interestingly inspector in-charge of Deccan police station, PI Ram Kondhalkar was on leave when this happened.
