Militants fired a rifle grenade at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar on Saturday, injuring two persons including a CRPF constable.

“Militants fired one grenade towards the Civil Secretariat but the explosive landed near Neelam Cinema,” CRPF spokesman P Tripathy said.

“Two persons, including a CRPF constable, were injured in the blast,” he said. The identity of the other injured could not be ascertained immediately. The grenade was probably fired from Suthrashahi locality and the area has been cordoned off, the spokesman said.

Although militants have carried out grenade attacks in the city targeting security forces, this is first attempt in several years to target the Civil Secretariat.
