
MUMBAI, Jan 23: Greaves, Spaco and Ashok Leyland have bagged the Impresa 98′ awards for their contribution to promote Indo-Italian business relations. Impresa 98 awards, which will now be an annual feature, was jointly instituted by the Indo-Italian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Indian Express Group. The awards were announced by the chairman of the panel of judges, S M Datta at a ceremony held here on Friday.
Greaves was selected for its long standing relations with Italy dating back to 1970 and its successful collaborations with Lombardini, Same and Piaggio Veicholi Europei Spa in the automotive and agricultural sectors.
Spaco was chosen from the small and medium scale enterprises for its contribution in the field of branded carburetors and spare parts for two and three-wheelers and have had a successful technical collaboration with Dell Orto Spa of Italy.
The third award for displaying high level of social responsibility went to Ashok Leyland for its anti-AIDS campaign amongst the truckdrivers, its anti-emissions campaign under which it launched a mobile emission clinic in Delhi and its eco-friendly attitude.
The awards were given to the respective companies immediately after the announcements in the presence of the Italian Ambassador, Dr Gaetano Zucconi. He said even though the world economics situation was difficult, Indo-Italian trade had increased at a high rate last year.
The Managing Director of Export-Import Bank of India, Y B Desai, underlined the similarity of objectives of both the bank and the chamber in promoting trade and investment both finance and value-added services to companies who had relations with Italy. The award, as Narinder Nayar, President of the Indo-Italian Chamber said at the function, was to recognise the contribution made by the major players in promoting Indo-Italian relations.
