Despite openly endorsing his party’s re-union with the BJP to install a government in Karnataka, JD(S) supremo H D Devegowda vowed to ‘fight against BJP and Congress in future’.

“There is no change in my decision of the past and future to fight against Congress and BJP with whom I have maintained equi-distance since 1999,” Gowda told PTI over telephone.

“In 1999, I decided to maintain equi-distance from Congress and BJP and till today I have been fighting every election against them,” former prime minister said while reacting to the reports that appeared in a section of the press that Gowda will have long term relations with the saffron party.

“How can you ask me such questions? Did I ever go back on my political ideology,” a fuming Gowda questioned back when asked for his reaction on the swift political developments unfolding in Karnataka after the JDS offered unconditional support to the BJP to form the government.

Gowda lambasted Congress’ criticism of his indulging in political opportunism by re-forging ties with the BJP.

“We had to mend fences with BJP in the wake of some former JDS leaders, who had joined Congress, making attempts to split my party,” he added.

“Due to conspiracy by some JDS leaders and Congress, we decided to support the BJP,” the JD(S) supremo said.
