NEW DELHI, JAN 30: The Government has decided to increase the tariffs for foreign letters, aerograms, postcards and other items. Aerograms to Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan will now cost Rs 7 instead of Rs 5 earlier. For countries in the Asia-Pacific, Europe and the Americas they will now cost Rs 8.50 instead of Rs 6.50 earlier. The rates will come into effect from February 1.

According to the revised foreign surface postage rates the tariff for letters of a weight not exceeding 20 gram would be Rs 7 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 9 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries except Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan and Rs 11 for Universal Postal Union countries.

For letters weighing between 20 and 50 gram, the tariff would be Rs 10 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 14 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries except Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan and Rs 16 for other countries.

For letters between 50 to 100 gram, the tariff would be Rs 16 forPakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 21 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries and Rs 25 for Universal Postal Union countries.

For a letter between 100 to 250 gram, the tariff would be Rs 40 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 54 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries and Rs 63 for Universal Postal Union countries and for letters between 250 to 500 gram the tariff would be Rs 80 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 108 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union countries and Rs 127 for other Postal Union countries. The tariff chargeable for small packets weighing up to Rs 100 gram would be Rs 13 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 17 for Asia-Pacific Union countries and Rs 20 for other Postal Union countries. For a weight between 100 to 250 gram the tariff would be Rs 23 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 31 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union countries and Rs 37 for other Postal Union countries.

For packets weighing between 250 to 500 gram the tariff wouldbe Rs 42 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 56 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union countries and Rs 66 for Universal Postal Union countries. For weight between 500 to 1,000 g the tariff would be Rs 69 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 93 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union countries and Rs 110 for Universal Postal Union countries. For packets between 1,000 and 2,000 gram the tariff would be Rs 98 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 132 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union member countries and Rs 155 for Universal Postal Union countries. For post cards (single) the tariff would be Rs 4 for Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Bhutan, Rs 6 for Asia-Pacific Postal Union countries and Rs 7 for Universal Postal Union countries.

Blind literature packets to all foreign countries shall be exempted from postage, according to the telecommunication department sources.
