“Though several countries including China, Japan, Germany and USA have evinced interest in the proposed complex but the the final decision will be taken after the consultants submit the feasibility report. It is learnt the project would come up either in Maharashtra or Gujarat as these areas have heavy concentration of chemicals and fertiliser industry.

Confirming the move, the Union minister of state for chemicals and fertilisers, K Rahman Khan said, “We have received several consultancy proposals from Saudi Arabia, China and Japan for which decision will be taken in a month or so”.

“Location for the complex is yet to be finalised. But Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka or Orissa may be the likely candidates. Initial steps have been taken to have a feasibility study”, he said.

According to a brief note circulated by the ministry, it has been stated that the proposed complex would be a mega integrated estate for chemical and petrochemical industry in coastal areas. “The complex will have basic infrastructure facilities including a good port and adequate berthing facilities,” the note said.
