The dialogue between the Centre and the NSCN (I-M), will resume from June 23 in the Netherlands. Seeking a solution to the decades-long insurgency in the North-East, the Centre’s emissary K. Padmanabhaiah and Director of Intelligence Bureau K.P. Singh are leaving for Amsterdam tomorrow. They will be holding talks with NSCN (I-M) leaders Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah over a period of three days.

The Centre — following a meeting chaired by Home Minister Shivraj Patil on Saturday — had decided to continue the peace process in the North-East by taking forward the dialogue with the NSCN (I-M). The meeting had also discussed the charter of demands submitted by the Naga outfit, including the one for ‘Greater Nagaland’ before taking the decision.

The Government had declared a ceasefire with the insurgent group in 1997. The UPA Government had stated in its Common Minimum Programme that it was committed to maintain territorial sovereignty of the states, especially in the North-East.

The NSCN (I-M) leaders had come to India — for the first time in 36 years — in January last, and had met then prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and his deputy L.K. Advani.
