NEW DELHI, MAY 28: The Government on Sunday night effected a major reshuffle involving 24 secretaries with Prabir Sengupta being appointed the new Commerce Secretary, A H Jung as Civil Aviation Secretary and A K Basu taking the top slot in the Power Ministry.

Sengupta, secretary in the department of defence production and supplies, would succeed P P Prabhu who is retiring on May 31, it was officially announced here.

Civil Aviation secretary Ravindra Gupta would take over as the new secretary in the department of defence production and supplies while Jung, special secretary in the Power ministry, would hand over charge to S S Sharma, at present Director General of National Power Corporation.

Steel secretary Basu would assume charge as Power secretary as the present incumbent V K Pandit superannuates this month end.

Bhure Lal, secretary in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, has been appointed as the new chairman of Food Corporation of India. He would take over from P R Dasgupta who retires on May 31.
