Additional DGP (Police Reforms) R B Sreekumar, who has been chargesheeted by the government, today said the “the government is determined to dismiss him” and its latest action to prevent him from ‘‘pointing out the limitations of the government machinery’’.

I will “fight it out” and submit my reply in 30 days, said the officer, who has often caused embarrassment to the Narendra Modi government by statements on its handling of post-Godhra violence.

Sreekumar said he received the chargesheet, which accused him of leaking intelligence reports without sanction, maintaining a diary and taping his conversations with Home Secretary (Law and Order) G.C. Murmu and government counsel Arvind Pandya, on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Home Amit Shah said: “Sreekumar always went to the media with his complaints. He never came to us. I think the Home Department is right in issuing the chargesheet as he made official documents public.’’

Principal Secretary (Home) K C Kapoor said the chargesheet was issued under the All India Service (Conduct and Disciplinary) Rules. “He released intelligence reports, recorded official conversations and made his private diary public without permission from the Home Department.”

Sreekumar, who was superseded for promotion as DGP, has filed a case against the government in the Central Administrative Tribunal.

While deposing before the Nanavati-Shah Commission, he had criticised the government’s handling of the riots and submitted extracts of the IB reports to prove his point.
