The Government has asked industries to introduce facilities essential for pregnant working women. “Pregnancy is not a disease. A pregnant woman needs certain amount of care and attention and all workplaces, be it a shopping mall or an industry, are required to make proper arrangements for her,” said Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury.

The minister on Thursday met a group of people comprising educationists, members of the industry and experts from different fields to chalk out a mechanism to ensure implementation of provisions for promoting breastfeeding and better health of pregnant women. The group will identify issues concerning women and children and it will also prepare a blueprint for the smooth implementation of various schemes.

“Offices don’t have adequate arrangements for a lactating or a pregnant woman. There should be a creche at workplaces so that mothers can attend to their children as well. The group will follow up with all corporate sectors to introduce provisions to take care of these factors,” added the minister.
