“What is the point in asking the Centre to dismiss the State Government, when both are from the same parties,” he said.

He said that underworld goons have made the lives of the people in Thane, Kalyan and other places in Mumbai miserable and lots of businessmen are migrating to other states, as extortion and killings have become a routine affair.

The diamond cutters of Mumbai, who are the prime targets, are leaving the city out of fear. The export of diamonds to the tune of Rs 11,000 crore, has now gone down by nearly 50 per cent, healleged.

The fear psychosis prevails so much in Mumbai that not only big industrialists and businessmen, but also doctors, chartered accountants, restaurant owners and other small businessmen are moving out to safer places, he said.

On the proposed Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime (MCOC) Act cleared by the Cabinet on Tuesday last, Pawar said, “Any legislation which can curb the criminal activity is welcome, but it should not be misused to settle political and personal scores.”

“Congress would like to study the legislation before it is enacted,” he said and added that the BJP-led government at the Centre had badly let down the people.

The reputation of India has suffered a beating at the hands of the government because of its hasty decisions, the spiralling prices have made the lives of people difficult and the BJP’s claim of a stable government under an able Prime Minister, has now fallen flat.
