Lucknow, Dec 14: National champions Pulella Gopi Chand and Aparna Popat bagged the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the Syed Modi Memorial All-India Grand Prix badminton tournament today.

Gopi deployed his experience while toying with Abhinn Shyam. He conceded only one point, winning 15-0 15-1 in 32 minutes. Gopi earned Rs 75,000 while Abhinn had to be content with Rs 50,000.

Aparna, after splitting the first two games with Meenakshi, forged 7-2 ahead in the decider. She conceded four points to give Meenakshi before winning back serve with a drop in the empty right flank. Thereafter, she cruised home 11-8. Aparna pocketed Rs 65,000 while Meenakshi was richer by Rs 40,000.Markose Bristow and Madhumita Bisht beat Vincent Lobo and Trupti Murgunde 15-8 15-8 for the mixed doubles title. Madhumita and PVV Lakshmi won the women’s doubles title.

Madhumita and Bristow shared Rs 20,000, while Vincent and Trupti got Rs 10,000 for finishing runner-up. The women’s doubles earned Lakshmi and MadhumitaRs 25,000 each, while Jwala and Shruti split Rs 30,000. Markose and Vijay Deep Singh shared Rs 55,000 for the men’s doubles title, while Ajit Wijetilak and Jose George collected Rs 35,000.
