PAYYANUR, July 21: T Nandanan, printer of the Malayalam version of the controversial book written by Gopal Godse, brother of Nathuram Vinayak Godse, was arrested on Monday evening. He was arrested for intending to cause communal disharmony. A special squad, comprising Payyanur CI T N Vinod Kumar and SI K K Moideen Kutty, took him into custody from the Thapathi Printers office here.Six hundred back covers intended for the book Bahumanapetta Kodathi Munpake (May It Please Your Honour) were seized from the press.A raid was conducted at the residence of P V Jayaprakash, managing partner of Thapathi Printers which published the book. An RSS worker's house at Kandankali, near here, was also raided. However, the police did not find anything. The Malayalam version of Gopal Godse's book has been creating a flutter in north Kerala in the wake of the ban on the controversial Marathi play, Me Nathuram Godse Bolte. The Congress(I) and the Congress(S) had burnt copies of the book saying it was intended to tarnishGandhi's image. Reacting to the issue, renowned thinker, M N Vijayan, said both the Marathi play and the publication of the Malayalam version of Gopal Godse's book were part of the ``text book technology'' being practised by the fascist forces in the country. Fascists do not find a place in the whole history of the freedom struggle. So they are making all-out efforts to get into the history of India, he said. Dr K Madhavan Kutty, former president of Tapasya, said that restrictions and ban on books will only increase people's interest in such books.``I believe that `May It Please Your Honour'' has appeared in other languages and there is no reason to prevent its publication in Malayalam. I feel that publications of different views need to be allowed and there should not be any control on people's right to read and get information. Our tradition also favours such a spread of ideas and information.'' ``I understand that Godse's deposition in court is a public document with access to the public. And thereis no justification for preventing it from reaching people,'' he added.Congress leader A Sujanapal said that the book should be banned as it was aimed at creating communal disharmony in the country and at defaming Mahatma Gandhi. ``It was banned in other parts of the country earlier and it should be banned in Kerala also. Any material that aims at defaming the Father of the nation should be banned. I don't find any justification to allow publications that depict Gandhiji in a bad light.''
