For Sania Mirza it was all good news on Monday. The WTA posted its rankings, and Sania had leapfrogged eight places to a career-high of 34. Then, came another piece of good news in her 18-tournament WTA experience: the 18-year-old has earned a seeding at the $2,25,000 Wismilak International in Bali.She is seeded eighth for the Tier-III event. In October last year Sania was the No. 2 seed at the ITF meet at Lagos, Nigeria, which she won after being ranked 258 by WTA. In the quarter finals in Bali, Sania is scheduled to run into world No. 1 Lindsay Davenport. Back home, there was more good news. The Andhra Pradesh government has stepped in to sponsor her travelling coach John Farrington. Sania’s father Imran, speaking to The Indian Express, confirmed Andhra chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s promise on the issue. Farrington was initially signed on by the Mirzas for a period of six weeks, upto the US Open. This association will now continue, till the Australian Open. The couple of odd tournaments before the Australian Open for Sania includes the $170,000 Tier-III Sunfeast Open at Kolkata from September 19 to 25. "Farrington will be with her everywhere she plays," Imran said.Imran would not comment on Farrington’s fees. "Let’s put it this way top coaches charge anything between $300 and $5000 a week," he said. Sources, though, said Farrington will get $ 4,000 a week.
