The fundamental right to life and personal liberty was not being protected in Bihar, commented the Patna High Court on Friday. While expressing annoyance at the failure of the police in meeting deadlines to recover kidnapped schoolboy Gaurav Kumar alias Golu. The court today again extended the deadline to October 17. ‘‘Article 21 of the Constitution guarantees protection of life and personal liberty. But the spate of kidnapping and rise in crime reflect that the custodians of the law have failed to protect this fundamental right of the citizens,’’the court observed.After going through the police report on the Golu case, and the court decided to extend the deadline.Clean chit to MLA Raipatna: Uttar Pradesh BJP MLA K N Rai was given a clean chit by Bihar Chief Secretary G S Kang on Friday in the abduction of the Bihar school boy Golu. “We have information that the kidnappers have contacts with the UP legislator but it doesn’t prove his complicity in the case,” Kang said. —PTI
