CHANDIGARH, June 18: The rare collection that Vijay Paul Goel has crafted out of discarded sanitary ware was thrown open to public at Bal Bhawan this morning. The inaugural lamp that the Advisor, Jagdish Sagar, lit spoke about the man and his art, as the "diya" was carved out of a flange.

In sections that dealt with different aspects of his imagination, the visitors got to see flush ball "igloos", tap "tablas" and an entire range of kitchen items made of similar toilet junk. His trains from bottle traps, the steam boats from the siphons and his entire fleet of aircraft were the main attraction for the children who trooped past.

But unfortunately, the venue of the exhibition concealed the gravity of his creativity. In a city where even C-grade artists get important galleries to exhibit their copied and propped-up works, it is a shame that such a trendsetting wonderland of imagination and inspiration is displayed in a small corridor.
