CALCUTTA, March 12: It was day of shoddy football in Calcutta with both the National League matches ending in goalless draws. While Jagatjit Cotton Textile Mills of Phagwara and FC Kochin shared a point each at Rabindra Sarobar, Mohun Bagan dropped points yet again in the final phase of the League, after being held to a goalless draw by Goa's Churchill Brothers at the Salt Lake Stadium here today.Bagan had more chances even though the ball moved around in circles and might have even got a goal, but for Churchill's Ghanian players Hussain Osumanu and Edward Ansah. While Osumanu stood like the Rock of Gibraltor in the Churchill defence, Ansah brought off a few good saves at the goal to deny Bagan full points.Churchill, thus have 12 points from seven games while Bagan continue to be at the fifth spot with six points from as many games. With three more games to go for Bagan, their chances of retaining the title is as good as nil. FC Kochin are already out of contention and JCT, with eight points now, have avery difficult task ahead. In the other game, JCT dominated against FC Kochin with Surjit Singh and Hardip Saini playing well to keep the Kochin defence on tenterhooks but could manage to convert none.Crucial tie for EBNFL leaders at this stage, Salgaocar of Goa, play a crucial match against East Bengal at the Salt Lake Stadium tomorrow. Salgaocar have 14 points while East Bengal have gathered nine so far. Both the teams have won their opening matches of the second leg of the Super Six stage.Bhaichung Bhutia will not be there to strengthen East Bengal tomorrow. He is yet to return from England, where he is trying his luck with Aston Villa. Even a defeat will allow Salgaocar to remain at the top of the table. A victory will be crucial for East Bengal as the three points will help them catch up Churchill and narrow the gap between themselves and Salgaocar.
