A day after an NGO alleged involvement of Goa Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy in the murder of British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling, police on Friday gave him a clean chit in the case.
“We have investigated the Scarlett case and Roy Naik does not figure in that case,” Superintendent of Police Bosco George said.
During their ‘thorough’ investigation, Goa police did not find Roy’s involvement in the case which was later handed over to the CBI, he said.
Green Goa Foundation had filed a complaint with the police against Roy based on British media reports which had alleged he was involved in the murder of Scarlett and also the death of British tourist Stephen Benett.
Scarlett was found dead on Goa’s Anjuna beach on February 18 while Benett’s body was found hanging from a tree in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district in 2007.
A chargesheet has been filed in the Scarlett case and the matter is now sub-judice, George said.
As far as Benett is concerned, the case is with Maharashtra police, the officer said.
Roy’s name first came in limelight when Scarlett’s mother Fiona Mackeown had accused him of having links with the drug trade in the tourist state.
The Home Minister had dismissed the allegations against his son.
