The 35th International Film Festival in Goa will open with Mira Nair’s Vanity Fair.Though Vanity Fair did not set the cash registers ringing in the West, organisers here hope Nair’s film would be a big draw. Last heard, the organisers were trying to bring Nicole Kidman as the chief guest. The actress is said to have declined the offer citing her busy schedule. The nine-day festival, from November 29, will have an Indian panorama section, an Asian competition section and films from across the globe. The Indian panorama comprises 21 films in the feature film section, including Oscar entry Shwaas and Rituparno Ghosh’s Chokher Bali, and 19 films in the non-feature segment. The Directorate of Film Festivals, under the I&B Ministry, is organising the festival in collaboration with the Goa Government. The main festival theatres are located at Campal in Panaji, an official release said here. The last film festival was held in New Delhi.
