CHANDIGARH, June 10: The Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, will computerise all records of patients in wards soon. While computers will link heads of departments at the hospital and also at their residences, however access to patients8217; records will be strictly restricted to ensure confidentiality.

According to Government Medical College Medical Superintendent Dr Mehta, all medical histories, including line of treatment and drugs administered, will be on the computer. quot; This will also include body diagrams that are necessary in a majority of cases, quot; said Dr Mehta.

However, he said paper records for medico-legal cases will continue to be maintained since the legal system was not yet computerised. After ascertaining computerised billing effectiveness, pharmacy, store and procurement branches will also be on-line and interconnected for easy access.

The superintendent said plans are afoot for computerisation of accounts, establishment and academic branches. Internet facilities will be provided to staff and students once the library is computerised.

Dr Mehta said: quot; This is not all 8230; graphic-simulated images will be used to teach anatomy and even surgerical techniques. These are fantastic programmes 8230; if a student places an incision at the wrong place, the computer will tell the student about his errorquot;.
