Kapil dev glad

SHARJAH: Kapil dev has welcomed the prospect of West Indian paceman Courtney Walsh breaking his world record for the most number of Test wickets, though he felt setting new marks in cricket today is easier than in the past.

"I want someone to break it. The world should keep moving forward and as long as the world keeps moving ahead, records will be broken," kapil dev, the current Indian coach, said on a philosophical note. "It is nice to know that someone is nearing my record. I am not at all disappointed that it is being broken," he said.

"I never asked him to step down," said Zia, hinting it was Akram’s own decision to leave the top post. Akram had said, he quit captaincy because he no longer enjoyed doing it. "All this talk (of Zia asking Akram to step down) is mere speculation," the PCB chairman said.

Zidane out

PARIS: Zinedine Zidane is out of France’s Euro 2000 warm-up against Scotland in Glasgow on Wednesday after injuring the knee, he had surgery on last year. Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez is also doubtful after a thigh strain during Monaco’s 2-0 win over Nantes on Sunday.

Zidane suffered a knock to his right knee, operated on last year, playing for Juventus away at AC Milan on friday.
