Aussies snub US offer

SYDNEY: The United States sought today to diffuse a boycott threat by the Australian Davis Cup squad by suggesting the next two ties between the countries be played in Australia.

Australian Davis Cup captain John Newcombe gave Brewer’s suggestion a lukewarm response, saying it was impossible for the USTA to know whether Australia and the US would play each other again in 2001 and 2003.

“They must have a crystal ball to look into to know that,” he said.

The issue will be thrashed out by Tennis Australia president Geoff Pollard, his USTA counterpart Judy Levering and ITF chief Brian Tobin in Berlin this week.

He told AFP: “I’m not suprised to still be in great shape, since I’ve never thought about growing old. I have a rosy outlook on life, because I wish to see it that way. That keeps both the mind and spirit in top shape.”

Already in the Guiness Book of World Records, Harry’s secret is a simple one: “People who sit around waiting to grow old never reach a ripe old age. One has to be positive, love life, people, and hanging around with young people. My tennis partner is 37,” he explains.

Harry made an apreance at the last Copenhagen Open on March 3-7, playing a 40-minute doubles match before the quarter-finals of the ATP tournament.

“I play tennis two or three times a week, for one or two hours, and I count on doing so for the next 100 years,” Harry said.
