LONDON:
England left out off-spinner Robert Croft in naming their 12 for the final Test against South Africa. The match, starting at Headingley, Leeds, on Thursday, will decide the series currently level at 1-1.

Fan convicted
RIO DE JANEIRO:
With the prosecutor calling it "society’s response" to soccer violence, a fan has been convicted for the first time in a violent death inside a Brazilian stadium of a counterpart from a rival club, media reports said.

On Friday, a seven-member jury found Adalberto Benedito dos Santos guilty for the 1995 murder of 16-year-old Marcio Gasparin da Silva, who died from several blows to the head during a riot between supporters of Sao Paulo FC and Palmeiras in a Sao Paulo Stadium. Dos Santos, 23, has beensentenced to 12 years in jail.

Yugoslav coach
BELGRADE:
Yugoslavia’s Olympic coach Milan Zivadinovic has been promoted to boss of the national side. He replaced retiring World Cup coach Slobodan Santrac, the Yugoslav Soccer Federation announced on Saturday.

Zivadinovic, 54, who had two spells as a player with Crvena Zvezda Belgrade (Red Star), has coached several Yugoslav clubs including Crvena Zvezda, and sides in Turkey, Cyprus and Kuwait.

Ali’s treatment
PALM BEACH (FLORIDA):
Muhammad Ali always had a magnetic personality during his boxing career. Now he is using magnets in an experimental treatment he hopes will cure his Parkinson’s disease. "I’m going to make a comeback. That’s my dream," said Ali, who has suffered slurred speech and physical handicaps due to the disease.

The Palm Beach Post newspaper reported that the former world heavyweight champion has already received five treatments from retired dentist and oral surgeon Jerry Jacobson in nearby Boca Raton.
