NEW DELHI, February 5: Ravinder Jha - the contractor from GK-II who was ``arrested'' by the UP police on Sunday - continues to remain in the custody of the Khatauli police in Muzzafarnagar district. The Delhi Police team, which went to Khatauli to ascertain whether Ravinder has been arrested, informed his wife, Niru, that he could be released on bail only after a couple of days.Niru says that she is meeting lawyers in Delhi, and will be leaving for Khatauli. Her brother-in-law is already on his way there, she says.``It is surprising that the UP police have not contacted me. Whatever information I have on my husband's whereabouts is thanks to the Delhi Police,'' she adds. While Niru insists that her husband was with her in Delhi on January 15, the UP police claim that Ravinder was part of the trio which stole a scooter from Khatauli on the same day.Meanwhile, senior Delhi Police officials maintain that the method adopted by the four UP policemen to ``arrest'' Ravinder is a breach of legalprocedure. Also, by not informing the local police before picking up the contractor, the Supreme Court ruling in this regard has been violated.``We will render all possible help to Niru, like details on the FIR and which court she should approach to secure a bail for her husband. I am also surprised that the UP police team did not produce a warrant before ``arresting'' him. If Ravinder is under suspicion for the scooter theft, he could have been questioned in Delhi,'' the official added. On the other hand, Niru's foster parent and next door neighbour Chand Langar claims that the ``kidnapping,'' and his subsequent efforts in tracing Ravinder have led to a series of threats.
