KAKINADA, June 26: The one-man commission of Justice Puttaswamy inquiring into the Venkatayapalem dalits tonsure case recorded the statements of four girl students of Venkatayapalem, who were harassed by Scheduled Caste (SC) youths.

The girls, Thota Adilakshmi, Thota Nagadevi, Doodi Surya Chandra kumari and Meka Varalakshmi, while deposing before the commission, gave almost identical versions on how they were harassed by five SC youths.

The accused, Koti Chinaraju, Dadala Venkataratnam, Kanikella Ganapati, Puvvula Venkata Ramana and Challapudi Pattabhiramaiah, used to tease the girls daily during their bus journey to their college.

The girls said that the youths used filthy language and despite being admonished by fellow travellers on several occasions, did not mend their behaviour.

Justice Puttaswamy ordered that summons be issued to Nagadevi’s brother to appear before the commission for examination. The girls said that they had represented their problem to the collector.
